The “Zentrum am Zoo” in Berlin was completed as a home for production and sale of fashion in 1957. In the eventful post-war period of the German capital, the building lost its importance with the construction of the Berlin Wall. Since 2014, the area located in Berlin City West is shining in new splendour again: The “BIKINI BERLIN”, which got its nickname from its divided appearance, today harbours a concept shopping mall, a hotel, a cinema and office facilities. In 2018, the Bavarian concrete stone manufacturer GODELMANN opened a Flagship-Store in the Bikini Berlin building on 162 m². Next to an office wing and a studio, where GODELMANN materials are presented, a presentation section was built, where GODELMANN products can be simulated in their real-life surroundings. The concept came from an ideas competition won by Brückner & Brückner Architekten.
In the subsequent implementation, the Lindner Group realised the extraordinary ceiling design with integrated lights, which results in a sophisticated ambience. For this cause, the implemented Lindner MESHdesign Viva – 3D Expanded Metal Surface, which transforms the ceiling into a three-dimensional design object, is ideal. A high number of meshes, geometries and colours create unique effects, and varied appearances can be emphasized by the incidence of light.
