The Underground Station Marienplatz had been in uninterrupted operation for 40 years, with up to 200,000 passengers passing through it each day, when in 2011 a full modernisation project was launched. Due to the Station´s importance and its location in the heart of Munich, all works needed to be executed during operation. The modernisation brought particular improvements to the intermediate floor, which was designed in a more open and modern way. The sales areas, formerly an obstacle for passengers, are now located in one row around a large central hall that is brightly lit.
The trademark of the new intermediate floor are red metal ceilings that form a compound with LED luminaires. Lindner contributed an individualised Custom Ceiling System to this compound, which met the requirements in regard of appearance and functionality. Towards the exits, the ceilings have been executed with stainless steel.
