Since April 2024, around 1,600 OTTO employees have been enjoying new work environments designed according to the "Activity-Based Working" principle. In addition to modern office spaces, the OTTO headquarters in Hamburg-Bramfeld is particularly impressive with its 38-metre-high atrium, which has been carved into the building.
The transformation of the former logistics building into the OTTO headquarters includes nine floors above ground and a basement, boasting an impressive gross floor area of around 47,900 square metres. A unique architectural feature devised by the architects at akyol kamps is the atrium, which was later carved into the structure. This resulted in an extraordinary open, light-flooded atmosphere and a special meeting and event space, in addition to the open-plan office spaces.
Tailored Solutions for the Highest Standards
After successfully completing the "OTTO GO 10" project in December 2019 on the OTTO campus in Hamburg-Bramfeld, Lindner SE was commissioned with the refurbishment of the "GOeast" building. Lindner SE | Fit-Out North-Northwest Germany assumed the role of general contractor for the interior fit-out and was responsible for various tasks including external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), screed and flooring, drywall, glass partition systems, steel sheet doors, metal doors, and logistics.
The open office spaces between the atrium and the façade span multiple levels and provide ample room for modern work environments. Particular emphasis was placed on a well-thought-out layout, which accommodates both collaborative working and retreat spaces for focused work. The Lindner Life Pure 620 glass partition systems play a central role, as they not only offer flexibility in room usage but also contribute to a bright and open atmosphere with their transparency.
Materials such as glass and metal, along with exposed concrete columns up to 30 metres high in some areas, give the space a clear industrial character. The monochrome design, dominated by black and white, is softened by the occasional use of colour accents, which further emphasise the minimalist, industrial style.
Durability was also a key consideration: much of the furniture was sourced from refurbished stock, while new furnishings were selectively purchased for specific areas such as video lounges or social spaces.
Challenges Successfully Overcome
The execution of the project was not without its challenges. Due to large tolerance allowances and complex geometric requirements, drywall construction posed a particular challenge. In total, an impressive 175,000 linear metres of drywall profiles were installed, with plasterboard covering an area equivalent to 18 football pitches.
Thanks to close collaboration between all parties involved and the combination of various Lindner systems and products, a high-quality and modern spatial concept was successfully realised.
