Structural Acoustics

Effective sound insulation from room to room

Structural acoustics is a decisive factor in the construction industry that deals with sound transmission through building components and sound insulation in buildings. The aim is to minimise the transmission of sound between interior rooms, known as flanking transmission, as well as from the outside to the inside, and to create an optimal room sound image.

As an expert in acoustics and interior design, we are at your side as a competent partner for the acoustic optimisation of your buildings: from comprehensive advice to design and product development through to installation, Lindner offers effective acoustic solutions – adapted to the individual requirements of your building fabric.

  • Acoustic assessment and calculations of impact and structure-borne sound transmission, longitudinal sound insulation and level differences of building components for shell construction, building services, façade construction and interior fittings
  • Creation and documentation of technical data
  • Determination and optimisation of external noise levels
  • Design advice and support for special acoustic projects

What types of sound are there?

In structural acoustics, a distinction is made between different types of sound. This distinction is essential in order to be able to develop suitable measures for effective sound insulation. Each of these types of sound has its own characteristics and challenges that need to be understood and overcome.

Airborne sound
Structure-borne sound
Impact sound

Sound propagation and measures

The way in which sound propagates in a building depends on the frequency of the sound and the properties of the building components. Depending on their mass, rigidity and the material used, the latter can insulate or amplify certain frequencies. The resonance frequency also plays a role here, at which components can be stimulated to vibrate particularly strongly, which increases the transmission of sound.

In order to minimise sound transmission, we take various measures in building acoustics: These include the use of sound insulation materials, the decoupling of components or the addition of mass to dampen vibrations. In addition, the construction is designed in such a way that flank transmission is avoided. This refers to sound transmission via indirect paths such as adjacent rooms.

Through targeted planning and the use of special materials and construction techniques, we create acoustically optimised rooms that meet the requirements of sound insulation and promote the well-being of people in your building.
