Development of standardised BIPV components with integrated system technology

Press Release

Building-integrated PV modules for façades are to be developed as part of the research project. The modules should be easy to install and can be attached to the existing façade by a single person using the plug & play principle.

In order to achieve resource independence, different substrate materials, PV cell types and adhesive connections are being used to develop new component-integrated PV modules.

In this research project, GiB mbH, together with IAB GmbH and GES GmbH, is playing a central role in the constructive development of the BIPV modules. The individual components of the system technology, electrical connectors and mechanical fastening are joined together and made compatible.

As new combinations of materials are used, GiB mbH is also responsible for the development and implementation of fire tests, durability tests in climate chambers and strength tests.

Complete photovoltaic façades with the developed modules are then installed. Different material and cell combinations are tested and compared with each other for long-term electrical yield and durability. The external façade test stands at the in-house research and development centre are expected to simulate wind load and driving rain.
