The campus of the Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology) is home to the modular research and innovation building NEST (Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technologies). NEST has a central building core and three projecting platforms on which new temporary parts of the building - so-called units - are integrated in a plug-and-play process. One of these units is called UMAR (Urban Mining & Recycling) and is dedicated to construction in a circular economy. Lindner realized specially developed Plafotherm® heated and chilled ceilings there. To ensure that all connections remain recyclable, the cooling technology including the heat conducting profile were screwed to the ceiling panels. Moreover, the acoustic fleece was clamped without any bonding. The perforated metal ceiling panel made of anodised aluminum obviated the need for powder coating.
