Kö-Bogen

In the centre of Duesseldorf, between Köngisallee, Hofgartenstraße and Schadowplatz, the Kö-Bogen came into existence. It was designed by star architect Daniel Libeskind and it is located on an area of 36,000 m². This premium retail and office structure consists of two 26-feet high buildings and one connecting bridge. It was awarded the MIPIM as the world´s best building in the category urban regeneration on 13 March 2014.

The facade blends into the building´s extraordinary design, which is a mixture of straight and wavy lines. Behind the interaction of the almost white, roman travertine and large-scale glass panels, a skillfully hidden modular structure can be found. The diverse order of elements creates complex patterns which draw strong visual connections to the "neighbourhood" of the respective building sections: The soft shapes of the horizontal facade mirror the neighbouring theatre and underline the dynamic look character of the Schadow square and Gustaf Gründgens square. At the same time, planted areas in the vertical facade facing the Königsallee (King´s avenue) and the Hofgarten emphasise the meeting of city and nature. Due to the wavy shape of the structure, a lot of angles can be found in the mullion - transom construction. In order to create identic frame view both inside and outside of the building, a special fulcrum was chosen for the profile connection.
