A clear Goal in Front of us
Lindner's ambitious goal for the next few years is to achieve CO2 neutrality – also due to legal requirements. The biggest challenge here is that about 80 % of the energy demand is consumed in the production facilities. However, thanks to several energy improvement projects, Lindner has already come a step closer to the set goal: With the measures taken so far, almost 1,560 t of CO2 per year can already be saved. For Arnstorf, this results in total CO2 emissions of 0.127 kg (DE mix 0.366 kg) per kWh of electrical energy consumed, with an in-house electricity share of 7 %.
No Fossil Fuel in the Future
In the course of the new construction of the powder coating and metal processing facilities, the heating system for the 2021 production was renewed. This means the production facility can be supplied with process heat without fossil fuels. The used fuel is the result of wood dust from the company's own raised floor production. By way of comparison, this could also heat a housing estate with about 165 single-family homes.
An important aspect of this is also the new construction of the compressor centre and the associated replacement of twelve outdated units: Thanks to five new highly efficient compressors, the process of compressed air production can now be optimised – because this is very energy-intensive: Only 5 % of the energy used ends up in compressed air, the rest is waste heat. In future, this will flow into the heating and process heat via a recovery system and can thus be used, for example, to heat the electroplating shop.
Filling up with Sunshine – Renewable Energies at Lindner
Electricity from the roof – not an unknown scenario in Arnstorf: With the help of two additional PV systems on the company's roofs, which are scheduled to go into operation in 2022, the Arnstorf site will have a total output of approximately 3,420 kWp from solar energy. The systems could cover the annual demand of an average single-family home in just one hour. In 2021, Lindner's carbon footprint could be reduced by around 107 tonnes of CO2 through PV self-generation alone. But that's not all: Lindner also reduces energy, maintenance and service costs thanks to energy-efficient lighting. With the help of the conversion of the entire lighting systems in the Arnstorf, Norit and Ostrov production facilities, Lindner has converted around 80 % to LED. This not only extends the service life of the luminaires many times over, but also increases the efficiency of the lighting to a maximum.
