At the heart of Hamburg, on the historic Ballindamm, lies the headquarters of the globally leading shipping company Hapag-Lloyd. As part of a pilot project, the Lindner Group revitalised a part of the ground floor office space to create modern work environments.
With over 280 state-of-the-art container ships and a global team of nearly 16,600 employees across 140 countries, Hapag-Lloyd is a leader in the maritime industry. To foster a contemporary work environment that supports and enhances the shipping company's innovation and efficiency, part of the ground floor office space at the Hamburg Ballindamm headquarters was revitalised. Throughout this process, operations in other areas of the building continued uninterrupted.
Modern Office Space Meets Historic Architecture
The project's focus was on dismantling individual offices and creating an open, modern workspace. The challenge was to respect the listed architecture of the historic building while integrating it into the newly designed, contemporary concept. Lindner was responsible for the complete fit-out of the space, using its Design & Build approach. This included not only standard solutions but also bespoke products and services, with Lindner leading the planning of the new work environments.
Lindner installed high-quality glass partition systems that ensure efficient space division while enhancing natural light. The flush-mounted glazing makes the spaces appear more open and harmonious. LED light channels, manufactured in Lindner’s lighting factory, further contribute to a pleasant working atmosphere and optimise lighting conditions in the offices.
The new office layout promotes communication and collaboration within teams, increasing productivity and individual satisfaction. The new communal areas provide spaces for employees to meet, exchange ideas, and work creatively. These areas are designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, enhancing comfort with a focus on environment, people, and health.
Bespoke Solutions for the Highest Standards
In addition to supplying and installing the systems, Lindner provided traditional tenant fit-out services and planning services in line with the Lindner Design & Build concept. Fire protection measures and technical building equipment, the installation of high-quality tiles and floor coverings, as well as painting and electrical work, completed the fit-out package. Custom-designed kitchenette units were also installed to meet the specific needs of Hapag-Lloyd employees.
Thanks to a short execution time and continuous communication with the client, a high level of customer satisfaction was achieved—from the initial planning through to implementation and beyond.
